I guess I should thank Caplan for writing this before cooling down. It will be nice to have this bit of vitriol to analyze at leisure over the next couple of weeks. One can only guess Caplan's dismay over the media going to disability advocates, scholars and activists for their take on important disability issues rather than bioethicists.
If he'd cooled down a little bit, he might have avoided his own glaring error (unless the misrepresentation was intentional): Virtually everything my own organization has put out about MDB has highlighted the fact that people have the right to refuse treatment - it's one of our criticisms of the movie.
But I guess accuracy and rigor aren't required skills in bioethics.

I will leave it to movie goers and readers to decide who is 'accurate'. But, while Mr. Drake is "at leisure" pondering my column he might want to ponder this news story too.
