The world of medical devices if often rife with conflict of interest problems.Art Caplan
[And the problems at the Clinic have received a lot of attention in AJOB including this editorial, and the whole mess there has become almost comical after the clinic held this preposterous and self-congratulatory conference on conflict of interest, as I noted - GM]

...the world of medical devices, pharmaceuticals; hell, wasn't there something recently at the NIH with a researcher "forgetting" to mention the massive income he was receiving, post the ethics reform that supposedly happened there? I mostly remember it because it was the same day Dr. Emanuel's brother was on The Daily Show. (Hey, some people tell time by baseball games,...)
If pens and pads of paper are going to sway you to be more favourable to someone and their product, I don't see how anyone can think hundreds of thousands of dollars is anything other than a payoff. (Of course, as a student, I can still afford to be idealistic on that front, eh?)
